What is Reiki?

Reiki is a healing technique where a practitioner places their hands lightly on or near the body to boost well-being and focus on your energy centers. It works with “life force energy”—the energy that flows through every one of us. When this energy is balanced, you will feel healthy and energetic; when it’s low, you might feel tired or unwell. A Reiki session is a gentle, relaxing experience. You’ll lie on a treatment table or sit in a chair. Sessions usually last between 60 to 90 minutes, providing a tranquil space for healing.

As a Reiki practitioner, I use “attunement” to balance energy, helping you feel better. Reiki is known for being gentle and relaxing, helping to reduce stress and promote healing in a natural way.

By the mid-1990s, U.S. hospitals used Reiki. It helped patients during surgeries, cancer treatments, and with chronic illnesses. Reiki’s journey highlights its enduring power and our continuous pursuit of well-being.

Origins of Reiki

Reiki, originally a practice from Japan, could be the ancient secret to modern healing and balance. The term “Reiki” means “spiritually guided life force energy,” blending the Japanese words “rei” (universal) and “ki” (life energy).

Reiki views our bodies as energetic landscapes, where energy sometimes gets stuck, causing stress or pain. Reiki practitioners like myself act as channels for universal energy. We help remove blockages, promoting relaxation and healing. It involves a special ceremony called attunement. It opens energy channels for life.

Reiki is spiritually rooted but adaptable. It offers benefits without requiring a belief system. Whether you seek inner peace or calm amid chaos, Reiki helps to unlock healing energy. If you are looking for a way to feel more relaxed and balanced, Reiki might be what you need.

What is the science?

Reiki’s exact mechanisms are still being explored. Its essence is to gently yet profoundly impact our interconnected aspects by connecting us to the universal energy field. During a session, the practitioner channels it to promote healing and guides this “life force energy” through the body.

The body is seen as a system of energy centers, each capable of balance or imbalance. Reiki seeks to harmonize these centers, restoring equilibrium and initiating healing.

Quantum physics explores the behavior of subatomic particles and their interactions with energy and matter. This field aligns with Reiki’s principles. It suggests that energy and intention influence healing.

Quantum physics shows that energy particles exist in many states at once. They are affected by observation or intention. Similarly, Reiki practitioners believe their focused intention guides healing energy. The link between quantum physics and Reiki is fascinating. It may explain the science behind Reiki’s transformative power.

What are some common
Reiki techniques?

Reiki comes in different flavors, with six primary types of energy healing techniques at its core:

  1. Centering: Finding inner balance and calm.

  2. Clearing: Removing negative energies or blockages.

  3. Beaming: Sending focused healing energy to specific areas.

  4. Extracting: Safely removing unhealthy energies.

  5. Infusing: Energizing the body with positive, healing energy.

  6. Smoothing: Cleansing and revitalizing the energetic field around the body or what some call "raking the aura."

Each Reiki technique has a unique approach. They help practitioners tailor their sessions to individual needs. This encourages physical and emotional well-being.

How can reiki help you?

Many people turn to Reiki as a gentle complement to their wellness journey. A session may help you:

EXPERIENCE DEEP RELAXATION
AND STRESS RELIEF

During Reiki, the body is invited into a state of deep rest, allowing the nervous system to calm and the mind to soften. Many clients describe a sense of peace that lingers long after the session ends. This relaxation helps release built-up stress and creates more space for clarity, ease, and comfort in everyday life.

SUPPORT THE BODY'S
NATURAL HEALING PROCESS

Reiki does not replace medical care, but it beautifully complements it by creating an optimal environment for the body to do what it naturally knows how to do: heal. By restoring balance to the energy system, Reiki encourages physical renewal, supports recovery, and helps bring the body back into harmony. It gently reminds your system of its innate wisdom and ability to restore itself.

RELEASE TENSION, FATIGUE, AND
EMOTIONAL OVERWHELM

When energy is blocked, we may hold onto heaviness, whether that shows up as tight muscles, emotional stress, or mental exhaustion. Reiki helps to ease these energetic knots, allowing the body to let go of tension and the mind to quiet down. Many people leave their session feeling lighter, more energized, and better able to handle life’s challenges with a sense of calm.

rESTORE BALANCE AND CLARITY
TO YOUR ENERGY AND AURA

Energy can sometimes feel scattered, ungrounded, or “off.” Reiki gently clears and rebalances the flow, helping you feel more centered and aligned within yourself. This clarity can bring a renewed perspective, helping you see situations with greater ease, focus, and understanding. It’s like hitting the reset button for your energy field.

FEEL MORE PEACEFUL, CENTERED,
GROUNDED, AND RENEWED

The gentle, loving nature of Reiki often leaves clients with an overall sense of wholeness. As the energy settles, many describe feeling both grounded and uplifted—like they’ve come back home to themselves. This renewed sense of inner peace allows you to carry that calm into your daily life, making it easier to navigate with grace and presence.

Aftercare

Following a Reiki session, here’s what clients can expect:

  • Stay Hydrated: Drinking plenty of water to stay hydrated and support the body’s natural processes is a good practice.

  • Varied Feelings: Post-session feelings vary widely. Some individuals may feel calm and peaceful, while others might experience a boost of energy.

  • Possible Fatigue: Feeling a bit tired after Reiki isn’t uncommon. The body might be processing the energy work, so it’s perfectly okay to rest.

  • Self-Reflection: Consider taking a moment for introspection after the session. Many people gain insights or experience emotional releases during or following Reiki.

  • Follow After-Care Instructions: To get the most from the experience, clients should follow any after-care instructions. Individual experiences and needs can vary, so your guidance is valuable for their well-being.
